Laser cutting utilizes a high-powered fiber or CO₂ laser (generally in the 5kw to 8kw range) to pierce and cut metal or other materials rapidly. The laser cutting machine is directed by a computer utilizing input 2D drawings to determine the required dimensions and shapes. Laser cutting offers a number of advantages over other cutting technologies such as mechanical die punching, saw cutting, plasma cutting and waterjet. Some of the key benefits include:
