How to use the BOM generator
Upload the assembly
A STEP or STP assembly, or several STEP, STP or SLDPRT part files at once. The tool reads each component, counts repeated instances and detects thickness and bends from the sheet metal features.
Set the defaults
Choose a material and finish to apply to every row, then change individual rows if a part differs. Set the assembly quantity to multiply all part quantities.
Press Generate BOM
Review the table, edit any cell, then export to Excel or send the whole list to a Komacut quote.
Frequently asked questions
Which file formats does the BOM generator accept?
STEP or STP assemblies, and STEP, STP or SLDPRT single parts — the same formats as the Komacut instant quote. Parts should be modelled with a 3D sheet metal module so thickness and bends can be read.
Does it detect material and finish?
No. A 3D file does not reliably carry material or finish, so you set a default for the whole BOM and change rows that differ. Thickness, flat size, bends and weight are read from the geometry.
Does it include hardware and fasteners?
Hardware is a column you fill in. Komacut supplies bolts, nuts and washers from M2 to M12 and can pack them as custom kits, so the hardware column carries into the quote.
Can I quote the whole BOM at once?
Yes. “Quote this BOM on Komacut” uploads the parts with their quantities to b2b.komacut.com, where each part gets an instant price and DFM result.
What does the BOM include?
One row per part with part name, quantity, material, thickness, flat blank size, number of bends, blank weight, surface finish, hardware and notes, plus totals for part count and weight. Weight is volume × density using the same densities as the weight calculator.
What happens to my file?
The file is used to build the BOM and is not stored. To keep the parts and get prices, send the BOM to Komacut.
